Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to remove localized fat deposits in specific areas of the body. It is used primarily for body contouring and does not replace weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.

Purpose of liposuction

Liposuction is especially suitable for patients who, despite exercise and a balanced diet, have persistent fat accumulations in certain areas of the body. The most common areas are:

  • Abdomen

  • Hips (“hips”)

  • Thighs

  • Knees

  • Upper arms

  • Chin (double chin)

  • Back

Procedure

1. Preliminary evaluation
In the consultation, the objectives, expectations, health status and possible risks are analyzed.

2. Anesthesia
The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of treatment.

3. Liposuction
Fine cannulas are introduced through small incisions. Using special techniques (e.g. tumescent, vibration-assisted or water jet), the fatty tissue is detached and aspirated.

After surgery

  • Compression garments: use for several weeks to reduce inflammation and promote skin adaptation.

  • Recovery: light activities after a few days; intense exercise after approximately 2-4 weeks.

  • Final result: is usually seen after 3-6 months, once the inflammation has disappeared.

Risks and side effects

Like any surgical procedure, liposuction carries certain risks:

  • Swelling, bruising, temporary numbness

  • Infections, irregularities in skin contouring

  • Asymmetries or scars

  • Thrombosis (rare)

An experienced plastic and cosmetic surgeon can minimize these risks.

Requirements

  • Good general state of health, not severely overweight

  • Realistic expectations

  • Absence of acute skin or vascular diseases.

Conclusion

Liposuction can significantly improve the body contour, but it is not a definitive solution. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a stable weight is essential to obtain positive and lasting results.
